Project: ring resonator
Time to put the pieces together. An all-pass ring resonator is a ring next to a straight bus waveguide. Light crosses the narrow gap between them, and the wavelengths that fit around the ring a whole number of times build up inside it — so the device filters out a comb of wavelengths.
The cell is fully parametric:
| Parameter | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
radius | 10 µm | radius of the center line of the ring |
width | 500 nm | width of the ring and of the bus |
gap | 200 nm | gap between the bus and the ring |
bus_length | 30 µm | length of the bus |
Everything the device needs has come up already: rectangles and rings, anchors and offsets, parameters and ports. Build it so that it stays correct for any values of the parameters — Submit also checks the cell with other values.
Exercise
Complete RingResonator. The bus starts at the origin and runs along +x; the ring sits above the middle of the bus, gap away from it. Give the cell the ports input and output at the two ends of the bus, with type = "waveguide", the matching direction and width = width.
